Bill Truman:

A soft-spoken accountant, Bill Truman – mid-forties, handsome in a non-Hollywood way – is befuddled. A tenderhearted, caring father, Bill is perplexed at how to keep his daughter safe in this helter skelter world. Yes, maybe he drinks a little much; and yes, maybe he has a secret past but, dang it, he loves his family fiercely and wants to do what’s best for them. Unfortunately, stumbling upon a frightening discovery that calls for action, this intelligent suburban dad, is at a loss. Bill Truman now faces the hardest question of his life: Can he be the father his precious daughter needs?

Shay Truman:

Twelve year-old Shay Truman is the daughter every father wants: compassionate, intelligent, beautiful and open. And even though she may dress like a gypsy, (“Oh, that is so, so Roma.”), and is entering the rebellious teen phase, (“What is this, a Senate hearing?”), her joyous way of embracing life is infectious. Independent in a world of wannabes, she is innocent but not dumb, artistic without being snobby. Shay adores her father and cherishes her mother. And when playing her raucous zgy zgy CD, she goes wonderfully ballistic tangoing with her best friend, Trish la Dish. Gathering life in her unique way, Shay is impossible not to love.

Kate Truman:

We can see where Shay gets her looks and high spirits when Kate Truman shows up. Early forties, athletic and striking, Kate occupies a room like her team is just about to win the big game. But although she is fun-loving and joyful she has just begun to step into the quicksand of mid-what-am-I-doing-with-my-life crisis. The solid love for her husband has been tested in the last year and she’s discovering how the black and white mores of a marriage can uneasily morph to gray.

Leonard Luna:

Leonard Luna - early fifties, ex Magician and Puppet Master - is an easygoing guy with a smile that could charm the dead. You know the one – the uncle you like but don’t quite trust. Now a marketing manager at the same hi-tech business Bill works at, Leonard spins his wheelchair like he hasn’t got a problem in the world. Except for whatever shadows hover over him and his daughter; or the fact that his teenage son ran away a year ago. Looking sharp in his devil goatee, Leonard has secrets.

Trish Luna:

Trish “La Dish” Luna is the girl next door your brother spies on: A happening little Lolita with spiky dyed blond hair and piercings where piercings ain’t supposed to be. Fourteen and sexually active, Trish is involved in some unidentified activity that whispers trouble. She is a clever, sharp-tongued teenager burdened with unspoken woes: The underlying tension between her and her father? Her runaway bother? The death of her mother? Trish is a fragile, tough girl.

Al Liner:

Round as a rhinoceros and Telly Savalas bald, Al Liner is quick with a quip, though mostly under his breath. As Bill Truman’s best friend, Al longs to be a stand-up guy. But being his religion is Devout Coward, this self-effacing, cigar-chomping cynic tends to play it safe. Like an employee afraid of losing his job, Al – huffing towards fifty - knows retirement is a long way off.

Pin Luna/Mad Jack:

Pin Luna is an attractive young man with a smile that says "Stand right there while I set you on fire." Late teens, this charming sociopath is damaged goods. Known as Leonard’s runaway son, Pin’s involvement in porn exploitation hints at inner demons and twisted secrets. Pin is the kid you wouldn’t leave alone with your new puppy.

Slide:

When Slide approaches us in his all white sailor outfit and his Eddie Haskel smile, we hesitate. Still a teenager, Slide is an odd duck that’s involved in something we get the feeling we’d rather know nothing about. His friendship with Trish is suspect and his friends are just plain weird. Slide is the kid in high school who was voted “most likely to go to jail for insider trading.”

Christine Cannon:

Like strong sunlight that can dispel shadows but then heat you to a quick burn, Christine Cannon is a no nonsense, straight shooter. Attractive in a tomboy way, this late thirties office buddy of Bill’s is the kind of friend you know will never lie to you. The one who’ll tell you your tie looks about as attractive as road kill. The kind of friend you cherish.
